As investigators scour for clues in the killing of a mother, her two young children and her domestic partner in their upstate NY home, aspects of the quadruple homicide appear similar to another, unsolved mass family killing that occurred less than 15 miles away in 2014.
Shanta Myers, her lesbian lover Brandi Mells, son, Jeremiah, 11, and daughter, Shanise, five, were found bound with slit throats the day after Christmas in their basement apartment.
The building's manager found the deceased in their basement apartment at 158 Second Ave., Troy before 1 p.m. Tuesday.
"After being in this business for nearly 42 years, I can't describe the savagery of this", Tedesco told reporters Wednesday. "I know that the young man involved was definitely a good person".
Police from Troy and Schenectady, as well as other agencies, began focusing on the suspects, in part, after reviewing footage from security cameras in Troy, the sources said. He refused to release the cause and manner of death, possible motive, or a weapon used.

The childrens' uncle, Khalif Coleman, said 5-year-old Shanise was unusually mature for her age.
Myers also had a 15-year-old, Isaiah Smith, who was out of town on a retreat when the slayings unfolded in his Troy home. He says Shanta Myers had worked as a bus monitor and her children were active in youth programs. Brandi Mells, 22 years old.
