The Port Authority told the Daily News that much of the chaos is affecting the global terminal and Terminal 4.
The break happened in Terminal Four, which is a main global hub for the airport serving mainly Delta Airlines. "Passengers are urged to contact their airlines for specific flight information", the airport said on Twitter.
The airport was experiencing arrival delays of up to two and a half hours.
