In addition to the new headset, HTC is also expected to announce a new wireless adapter that will support both the HTC Vive and HTC Vive Pro headsets.
The Taiwanese company, best known for making slick-looking smartphones, on Monday at a CES press conference unveiled an upgraded Vive Pro, which like the original Vive system requires a high-end PC and a cable attachment connecting the two, but has enhanced resolution, integrated headphones and a number of other improvements. This will increase to 2880 x 1600 which HTC says is a 76% increase over the original Vive. Pro also includes dual microphones with active noise cancellation and two front-facing cameras.
We'll have more on Vive Pro and the Vive Wireless Adaptor as it's made available.
But for those interested in owning the next step, HTC hasn't committed to exact release dates - for the Vive Pro, or for a proper successor to the now available Vive.
United States could freeze $2B in aid to Pakistan
The official also said the suspension is mostly about the security assistance and does not include civilian assistance. He said that doubting intent of Pakistan would affect joint efforts of peace and stability in the region.
Details are still scant at the moment, but it's been built using Intel's WiGig spec and work on the 60Ghz band to maximise performance and reduce latency.
The Vive Wireless Adaptor will ship worldwide in the third quarter of this year. "Wireless VR has been on almost every VR user's wish list since the technology was unveiled", Frank Soqui, GM of the virtual reality group at Intel, said in a statement.
Finally, Vive has overhauled its Viveport storefront to improve discovery and enable VR previews of content. "Available in early access today, Viveport VR increases interaction with content and offers developers a preview that showcases the quality of their titles and experiences".
"Vive we truly believe is the industry standard when it comes to VR", said Daniel O'Brien, general manager of the HTC Vive. On the current model, the headphones were only available as an add on.
