Warmbier said that even though North Korea had formed a "unified" team with South Korea, its athletes were not truly demonstrating Olympic spirit. North Korea has tested a record number of missiles a year ago and has shown no interest in abandoning the country's nuclear program.
South Korean President Moon Jae-in shook the hand of a smiling Kim Yo Jong, the powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, as he entered the VIP seating section, and again as the Korean athletes marched.
"She also delivered a message from Kim Jong-un that he is willing to meet President Moon Jae-in in the near future and that he hopes President Moon visits the North at a convenient time".
Supporters of the unified team, the first combined Korean team to appear at an Olympics, said that the women were doing honor to the country's long and painful history.
"The North Koreans should understand that for a summit or any kind of serious talks to occur, Moon needs to be able to take something to Washington - something that addresses denuclearization", he said before the North's invitation to Moon was announced.

He added that United States and allied military exercises will be delayed until after the end of the Winter Olympics on February 25.
Moon's desire to engage North Korea was in contrast to his USA ally.
Kim Yong Nam and Kim Yo Jong were the first individuals mentioned in its report on the opening ceremony, saying that they took their places on the platform at the event.
