The only major name in Silicon Valley to back President Donald Trump, some have called for Thiel's removal from Facebook's board. According to the Journal, Thiel's political stance also led to a strained relationship with fellow Facebook board member Reed Hastings, the CEO of Netflix.

Founders Fund and Mithril Capital, which he co-founded, will stay in San Francisco.
Mr Thiel, 50, recently considered giving up his director's seat at Facebook because of boardroom tension over his support for Mr Trump but chose to stay on, it was reported.
Thiel has left the boards of Zenefits and Asana, and sold most of his stake in Twilio. He was the first outside investor in Facebook and made early-stage investments in Yelp, LinkedIn, and Quora.
The move comes amid his frustration with what he sees as intolerance of conservatism in tech industry, WSJ.com reports.

"That's when you get in trouble politically in our society, when you're all in one side".
"Silicon Valley is a one-party state", he said.
