Currently, Waymo has Chrysler Pacifica minivans and prototype autonomous Lexus RX SUVs, but the RXs are being phased out and replaced with minivans.
The vehicle, made in conjunction with Google's self-driving unit Waymo, will be tested on public roads this year. Over the weekend, Krafcik said that Waymo's technology "would be able to handle situations like that one".
But the new SUVs from Jaguar, said Krafcik, represent the "world's first premium electric, fully self-driving vehicle".
The new vehicle is the Jaguar I-Pace electric SUV, which was first unveiled as a concept in November 2016. The SUV is the first battery-powered vehicle for the brand, underscoring the convergence of electrification and automation. The self-driving products of the future will be designed around passengers, not drivers.
Given Waymo's recent announcement with another on the way according to Krafcik, it's clear that the company hasn't let the trade dispute stop them. An Uber in autonomous driving mode with a human backup driver in the vehicle hit and killed a woman in Tempe, Arizona last week, prompting Uber to halt its self-driving auto testing. On Monday, Arizona's governor suspended Uber's self-driving tests.

Who knows how that video appeared? He can say whatever he wants to, but the bottom line is the Giants hold all of the cards. Within two years, OBJ became the Giants star player known for his touchdown celebrations on the field.
Rather than outfitting a vehicle for self-driving technology, Waymo engineers collaborated with Jaguar's team throughout the I-Pace's development process.
But other companies, including Waymo, are still testing - and Waymo is the only company that has vehicles on the road with no human backup drivers in the front seats to take over in an emergency.
Jaguar Land Rover, which is owned by Tata, of India, accounts for nearly one in three cars produced in the UK.
Bill Fay, senior vice president of automotive operations at Toyota North America, said Tuesday in an interview at an event in NY he did not know long the pause would last.
"We all have to build some trust into the technology and obviously this would be a little bit of a setback", Fay said.
Waymo is moving ahead with its plans to launch a driverless service, Krafcik said.
