"There was a lot of interest in whether I would come to watch Red Velvet", Kim Jong Un told North Korea's Central News Agency [via the Associated Press]. They shared a few words as they headed to the second floor for the concert.
"When such good atmosphere is preserved carefully and continuously, only the attractive spring when new buds sprout and flowers blossom and the rich autumn when the crops are abundant will always be in the way of our fellow countrymen", Kim said, according to North Korean media.
Tuesday is when the musicians of the two Koreas are slated to hold a joint concert. "This time the concert was under the theme "Spring has come, ' let it be 'Autumn has come" in the next autumn".
The concerts are a part of the Koreas' effort to ease tension in the peninsula. However, no date has been set for the US-North Korean summit.
It kicked off with a performance by jazz pianist Kim Kwang Min, along with a hologram that depicted the theme.
The North sent performers to the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in South Korea earlier this year.
The show's host Seohyeon of Girls' Generation, who performed with the North Korean art troupe in February in Seoul, welcomed the North Koreans to the show. "I am grateful for a gift like this (concert) to the people of Pyongyang", he said.
"We should hold culture and art performances frequently", Kim told South Korean performers.

After a similar attempt at K-pop diplomacy received a frosty reception 15 years ago, Red Velvet's members expressed surprise at the welcome they received from the North Korean spectators, who waved their hands and sang along to the songs.
Sunday's performance was one of two scheduled during the trip.

For the last seven years, thousands of South Koreans have assembled at the Nuri Peace Park only miles from the border with North Korea for an annual August K-pop concert framed around reconciliation and peace.
While this view is unlikely considering Pyongyang's reputation as a nuclear-armed pariah state, the North Korean leader, who until last week hadn't left his isolated nation since taking power in 2011, has embarked on a surprise campaign to improve his country's image. They included singers, concert staff, taekwondo demonstrators and reporters among them.
