In a surprise move, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday visited Tughlak Road police station to meet Telugu Desam Party MPs detained by police while marching towards the official residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"The MPs who were protesting have been taken into preventive custody". After repeatedly requesting them to go back to their seats, an exasperated deputy chairman P J Kurien threatened them with suspension: "Should I proceed with Rule 256?".
On Friday, party MPs staged a protest in Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan's chambers but were removed by security marshalls later in the evening. They were protesting over the demand of special category status for Andhra Pradesh.
The hours-long drama ended at night only after the TDP MPs were marshalled out from the House.
Meanwhile, all five Lok Sabha MPs of YSR Congress party resigned this week and are on a hunger strike at Andhra Bhavan in New Delhi. "We have been elected by the people to address their issues. We condemn this", he said. The central government, however, blamed the Andhra Pradesh government for the delay on a special package to the state.
