American officials say Israel informed the United States of its plans to strike a Syrian airbase days after a chemical weapon attack left dozens of civilians dead in a rebel-held city east of Damascus.
A T-4 airbase in the Syrian province of Homs has been hit by a missile strike, local media reported, suspecting the United States.
A Syrian military source was quoted as saying air defenses shot down eight missiles fired at the base.
Speaking at a meeting with USA military advisers late on April 9, Trump said, "we're making a decision as to what we do with respect to the terrible attack that was made near Damascus.and it will be met forcefully".
"US President Donald Trump promised a 'big price to pay" for the suspected chemical attack.
Israel has neither confirmed nor denied responsibility for the attack on the Syrian base.
The agency said it was likely "an American aggression" but US officials say the United States had not launched airstrikes on Syria.
