Afghan officials say at least 15 people have been killed, including a district governor, after Taliban militants attacked a district government compound in southeastern Afghanistan.
Shaker said that a number of officials were killed after a Public Order Police vehicle stepped on a roadside mine.
The violence comes a day after the United Nations said more than 700 civilians had been killed and almost 1,500 wounded in Afghanistan in the first three months of 2018.
The fall of Khawaja Omari to the Taliban extends their territory closer to the provincial capital, also called Ghazni, a city of 150,000 people 150 km (95 miles) southwest of the Afghan capital, Kabul.
He also confirmed the government's statement that the assault killed three top local officials - the district's governor, intelligence chief and deputy police chief.

Ground engagements between militants and security forces accounted for 30 percent of civilian casualties in the January to March period.
Taliban militants stormed security checkpoints with guns and rockets in Larzanak locality, Shindand district late Thursday, killing 10 policemen, the report quoted district Governor Shukrullah Shaker as saying. The attackers planted mines to prevent government reinforcements from coming and quickly took responsibility for the attack.
"In the attack, three mujahideen were martyred and four others were wounded".
"Five National Directorate of Security operatives, Khwaja Omari district governor and seven police force members were martyred (in the attack)", he added.
