Early in Sunday's game between the Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers, Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano was forced to exit the contest after being hit in the hand.
Cano tried to get out of the way of an inside 88-mph fastball from Detroit Tigers starter Blaine Hardy, a graduate of Edmonds-Woodway High School, when the pitch hit off of the back of Cano's hand.
Andrew Romine replaced Cano as a pinch-runner and second baseman in the third inning.
In the second game, Healy's two-run homer off Michael Fulmer (1-3) put Seattle up 3-2 in the fourth, and Cano made it 6-2 in the fifth with his fourth home run of the season.
Mariners hitters have slashed.261/.327/.436 on their way to 4.6 runs scored per game this season, including 4.9 runs per game over the team's last 10 games and 5.4 per game over the team's last five outings (3-2 SU).
Thousands in Indonesia protest United States embassy move to Jerusalem
Israel says it has a right to defend its border and has accused Hamas of using the protests as a cover for attacking the border. The protests will culminate on May 14 and 15, when the Palestinians mourn the 70th anniversary of Israel's creation.
Coming into the weekend, the Mariners' top hitter was Dee Gordon with 49 hits, 22 runs and eight RBI. The bullpen has a 4.70 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 8.6 K/9. Overall, the pitching has improved, but the Tigers have not been scoring as much as in years past, especially of late as they have averaged just 3.70 rpg in their last 10 games (prior to Saturday).
Jose Iglesias hit a two-run homer for the Tigers, and Grayson Greiner contributed the first two RBIs of his big league career.
"It needed to be challenged after the fact when I saw it", said bench coach Manny Acta, who was filling in for Scott Servais as Seattle's manager. He has allowed just one ER on 11 hits in 10.1 innings of work in those games. "I went out there trying to go as deep as I possibly can". On Saturday, Castellanos had two hits. The two unearned runs tied the game at 4. The teams were postponed April 8.
Seattle's James Paxton (2-1) takes the mound Sunday for the first time since throwing a no-hitter Tuesday at Toronto.
In the opener, Jose Iglesias hit a two-run homer and former Oregon State pitcher Matthew Boyd (2-3) allowed three hits and three runs while striking out six and walking three in six innings for the win.
