Ang Kami Sherpa's 22nd ascent to the summit created a new record for the most visits to the peak of Everest, Reuters reported.
Kami Rita, 48, comes from a long line of mountain climbers and first scaled Everest at age 24. Ani Lhakpa Sherpa summited from the North and the 44-year-old has now set a new female record, beating the record she set a year ago.
From the Chinese side of the mountain, Lhakpa Sherpa, 44, also reached the summit Wednesday for a record ninth time, shattering the record for women she set previous year.
Climbing from the Chinese side of the mountain, Sherpa's trip the summit extended her own women's record. "But I am not overexcited as it is a part of my professional job", Sherpa had said before leaving Kathmandu for the expedition. In past years, climbers would have to navigate the icefall two to three times, but now many have cut back, turning to other safer peaks with similar heights for their early training. According to the Himalayan Database, a record of expeditions in the Himalayas since 1903, out of 8,306 Everest summits so far, 5,280 have happened from Nepal and 3,026 from Tibet.
Apart from Kami, dozens climbed the mountain Wednesday, Shrestha said from the Base Camp. She lives most of the year in the US state of CT and has a son and two daughters.
Although Sherpa was scheduled to climb the world's tallest peak on Thursday, he achieved the feat a day before, surprising all his mountaineering colleagues and officials.

More than 340 foreign climbers along with their local guides are attempting to climb Everest this month.
Sherpa climbed the Everest for the 21st time in 2017.
For this spring season, the government has issued permits to 346 climbers of 38 teams for Mt. Everest.
