"We value the Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination", said Putin, adding that friendship between the heads of state and friendship between the two peoples are the solid foundation for the bilateral strategic cooperation.
Before arriving in Canada, British Prime Minister Theresa May called on fellow European Union leaders to take proportionate responses to the US tariffs and shrugged off a rebuff by Trump for a formal one-on-one meeting at the G-7.
The tone in the immediate run-up to the meetings at La Malbaie showed no sign of compromise between a U.S. president determined to disrupt the status quo to force more favourable terms for the USA, and six United States allies resolved to stop him. It also recently kicked off a trade investigation that could trigger additional tariffs on imported cars.
Mr Trump plans to leave the summit early and will skip G7 meetings about climate change, clean energy and ocean protection.
"Looking forward to straightening out unfair Trade Deals with the G7 countries", Trump tweeted.
Russian Federation joined the group in 1997, making it the G8.
Trump, who arrived in Canada around midday, was scheduled to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron later in the day.
The summit has already been dubbed the "G6 plus one" due to Mr Trump's isolation over trade and his decision to pull the U.S. out of the Iran nuclear deal.
Autopilot was engaged during deadly Tesla crash in March
The NTSB said Huang's vehicle sped up from 62 miles per hour to 70.8 miles per hour in the last three seconds prior to the crash. That has lead some technology developers to focus on fully driverless technology, which requires nothing from passengers.
And as if to add another irritant, Trump called for Russian Federation to be brought back into G7 and resurrect the G8 format, from which the Kremlin was expelled following Moscow's annexation of Crimea in 2014 and its meddling in eastern Ukraine.
"Whether you like it or not, and it may not be politically correct, but we have a world to run, and in the G7 which used to be the G8, they threw Russian Federation out", he said.
The call threatens to further strain what was shaping up to be a tough summit for the G7, whose members have also been clashing with the Trump administration over a looming trade war.
Bloomberg News' Shannon Pettypiece said these arguments have been made to Trump and people close to him have warned about the idea of a summit with Putin. Macron said Thursday on Twitter, "The American President may not mind being isolated, but neither do we mind signing a 6 country agreement if need be".
"I've been firm, I've been clear, but I don't think descending into insults is right for the way Canada engages with the world", the prime minister said.
Xi was also quoted by state news agency Xinhua as saying: "No matter how worldwide situations change, China and Russian Federation always firmly support each other in defending their respective core interests".
Russian Federation seemed unconcerned. State news agencies quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying, "We are putting the emphasis on other formats".
