Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo says he is hopeful "the revelation of the year" Mohamed Salah will be fully fit to compete at the 2018 FIFA World Cup with Egypt to have a shot at the Ballon d'Or.
But after Salah's incredible 44-goal season with Liverpool, Ronaldo now sees the Egyptian as a major threat for the best player of the year award.
Portugal midfielder Manuel Fernandes said Cristiano Ronaldo "doesn't look at all anxious about his future" as the Real Madrid superstar contemplates a possible exit from the Spanish giants this summer.
"Many people talk about the Cristiano Ronaldo-Messi battle [for the Ballon d'or] but there are other players who have chances to enter the race".
However, his season ended on a bad note, after he suffered a shoulder dislocation in the Champions League final defeat to Ronaldo's Real Madrid.
Stephens to play Halep for second Grand Slam title
There is no-one else I'd rather lose to than the number one in the world", Stephens, who will rise to four in the rankings, said. Halep has been lights out with her return this tournament and has produced a combined 14 breaks in her last two matches.
But the forward is now with the Portugal squad for the World Cup and Fernandes insists that Ronaldo is not letting transfer rumours distract him from the tournament. "Salah is certainly one of them".
If that is the case, the talisman is not showing it while on global duty with Portugal at the World Cup.
But, despite the rumours, La Liga president Tebas believes both will stay put.
While Ronaldo and Portugal will be hoping to build on their 2016 European Championship win, kicking off against Spain on June 15 before rounding off their group against Morocco and Iran.
