Toronto police have confirmed one of the gunshot victims is a young girl.
Toronto police chief Mark Saunders said the shooter was dead, after an exchange of gunfire with police on Sunday night (Monday, NZT). 14 victims were shot with a handgun.
Just after 10 p.m. ET, gunfire was reported in the Danforth and Logan area, which is a bustling area that includes bars, businesses and homes.
Toronto Police Service Chief Mark Saunders said officers were on the scene and identified the shooting suspect quickly. Some said they saw a gunman dressed in black opening fire on people in the area.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to call Toronto Police Homicide overnight at 416-808-5504.
It's unclear how many shots were fired, but a person in the neighborhood posted a video on Twitter in which at least five shots can be heard.

"We still live in a great city, but we have to be ever more vigilant about these kind of things", Mayor John Tory said.
"We started to hear people scream out front", Steinhauer said, adding that she had been told four to six people had been shot.
Six victims have been transported to trauma centres, one to paediatric trauma, two to local hospitals and an unconfirmed number of people are still being treated on the scene, according to paramedics.
Paramedics, firefighters and police converged on the shooting in Toronto's east end, which has many popular restaurants, cafes and shops.
The TTC has stated that subway trains are bypassing Chester Station due to police activity at this time.
