Hoping to inspire and provide support to kids facing the same problems he experienced during a rough childhood, James officially opened the I Promise School, a cutting-edge center built in a partnership with the National Basketball Association star's family foundation and Akron City Schools. In fourth grade, for example, he missed more than 16 weeks worth of school days.
"It's kind of bittersweet timing because, on this hand, I have a brand new school that's opening".

With a crowd of roughly 2,000 gathered in front of the impressive brick school that's not far from his alma mater, St. Vincent-St.
"So we look forward to all the challenges".
The bottom floor of the building features a mural of James, Muhammad Ali, Jackie Robinson, Jesse Owens and Martin Luther King Jr.
"No matter if I'm playing in Los Angles or not, Akron Ohio is always home for me", he told the crowd.
There are additional benefits to attending the school, including receiving meals, such as breakfast, lunch, and a snack, for free.
