The arrest comes after German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas urged Ankara on Monday to do more to improve its troubled diplomatic ties with both Germany and the United States, which would also help to ease Ankara's current economic woes.
Turkey has sought to persuade the United States to spare Turkey's state-owned Halkbank from a threatened fine for allegedly helping Iran evade USA sanctions.
Trump's doubling of tariffs on Turkish metals last week prompted Ankara, which says it will not bow to threats, to raise tariffs on USA cars, and tobacco by the same amount on Wednesday.
Global investors have been anxious by Turkey's high levels of foreign debt and Erdogan's refusal to allow the central bank to raise interest rates to support the currency, as experts say it should.
A Turkish business now effectively owes twice as much as it did at the beginning of the year.
"We have received no indication from the Turkish authorities that they are contemplating a request for financial assistance", the International Monetary Fund spokesperson added.
The dispute with the United States, focused on a tit-for-tat tariff row and Turkey's detention of Brunson, helped turn the currency's steady decline into meltdown.
Washington's move came during an ongoing dispute over Turkey's holding of an American pastor for two years.
A decree by Erdogan doubled Turkish tariffs on imports of USA passenger cars to 120 percent, alcoholic drinks to 140 percent and leaf tobacco to 60 percent.

The White House said on Wednesday that the United States will not lift sanctions on Turkish steel and aluminum products even if detained American pastor Andrew Brunson is released.
Investors are anxious that about Mr Erdogan's control over the central bank and his pressure to keep it from raising interest rates.
"We feel that Turkey, and specifically President Erdoğan, have treated Pastor Brunson - who we know to be a very good person and a strong Christian who's done nothing wrong - very unfairly, very badly", replied Sanders.
"If [the United States] have the iPhone, there's Samsung on the other side", he said, referring to USA giant Apple's iconic phone and the top South Korean brand.
In response, Erdogan has called for a boycott of United States electrical goods while Ankara has sharply hiked tariffs on some USA goods.
Elsewhere, the dollar dipped against a basket of currencies .DXY , moving further away from its highest levels since June 2017, hit earlier in the week as investors bought the USA currency in a flight to safety.
There was no resolution to the Brunson case in sight.
Investors have also shown a preference for the greenback based on the expectation that the it will gain at the expense of emerging market currencies which are dependent on commodity exports.
The officials said Qatar's Sheikh Tamin bin Hamad Al Thani pledged to "quickly implement" the investment package during a meeting with Mr Erdogan in Ankara.
