Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert wholeheartedly expected Bell to sign a franchise tender and rejoin his 'mates, since he'd broken his pressure tactic under similar circumstances at the beginning of last season.
"Coach Mike Tomlin and the coaching staff will continue to focus on preparing players on our roster for our regular season on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns".
That would be James Conner, whose impressive preseason might just earn him serious playing time Sunday at Cleveland regardless of what happens with Bell.
With running back Le'Veon Bell still on a holdout with less than a week before the new National Football League season kicks off, it's becoming increasingly apparent that he won't be there on the field when his team takes on the Cleveland Browns this coming Sunday.
The Steelers hold a big, unlikely card, as they could rescind the franchise tag on Bell and make him available as an unrestricted free agent.
When asked directly about Bell, guard Ramon Foster pivoted to Conner. Bell signed his tender on Labor Day last season and was ready in time for the opener.
Tropical Storm Gordon Races Toward US Gulf Coast
The National Weather Service said conditions were "possible" for tornadoes in the affected parts of South Florida on Monday night. Storm surge of 1 to 5 feet will be possible along the MS and southeastern Louisiana coastline near landfall.
Team captains Maurkice Pouncey and Cam Heyward said they've communicated with Bell, but they wouldn't disclose particulars.
"Whenever he comes, we'll welcome him with open arms", he said.
Jones had spent the past five seasons on the roster, including three as Ben Roethlisberger's backup, before being let go Saturday.
"We all know Le'Veon's running style is unique and it's different for the line, it's a change for everybody but I think James Conner really took advantage of the opportunity and has done some great things. Totally fine, trust me". However, Pouncey believes Bell's 2018 return will follow a similar timeline as last season's, when he joined the team days before its first game.
"When we look at ourselves, the overall health of our team is pretty good".
In 2017, Bell did not take part in any off-season activities during his first year on the franchise tag.
