Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-El Paso) and Sen.
Republican U.S. Senator Ted Cruz speaks during a debate with Democratic U.S. Representative Beto O'Rourke (not shown) for Texas U.S. Senate seat at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, U.S., September 21, 2018. In other words, working for the man and the establishment.
O'Rourke later walked back his statements and called the proposition "artless, and even inaccurate" in his 2011 book titled "Dealing Death and Drugs: The Big Business of Dope in the USA and Mexico".
For his part, the incumbent had to justify his recent ties to the president early in the debate.
Cruz went on the attack moments after stepping on the stage, charging that his opponent suggested that police officers embodied "modern-day Jim Crow" laws in response to a question about a Dallas policewoman who shot and killed her unarmed, neighbor after mistakenly entering his apartment, thinking it was her own.
Later, when Cruz tried to say O'Rourke wanted to abolish the Second Amendment, the Democrat said it wasn't so, and the candidates sniped while the moderators pleaded for them to stop and for the audience to stop hooting.
Cruz drew O'Rourke's ire when he suggested that O'Rourke, in supporting protests of police brutality by National Football League players, favored burning the American flag. Beaumont! Sweetwater! Roscoe! O'Rourke asserted that "all 254 counties wonder where their junior senator is". He could remain at odds with the president, which Mr. Cruz said would have been selfish and a disservice to his constituents, or he could join Mr. Trump in passing legislation like the tax overhaul that Mr. Cruz repeatedly credited with jumpstarting the economy so that "Texans lives are better". "When contractors needed labor, they would talk to local law enforcement, who would arrest African-Americans for idling, for petty crimes, frivolous offenses". A Quinnipiac poll showed the gap between the two as wider, with Cruz receiving 54 percent support among likely voters and O'Rourke receiving 45 percent support.
We have been pronouncing Chrissy Teigen's name wrong this whole time
The 32-year-old supermodel and TV personality dazzled on the red carpet in a silver Zuhair Murad gown. After all, the model, mother, host, advocate, and author has encouraged the incorrect pronunciation.
"The high-velocity high-impact round from an AR-15 will blow a hole the size of an orange out your back", O'Rourke said.
Mr. O'Rourke was measured in his criticism of Mr. Trump, although he did not dispute Mr. Cruz's point that Mr. O'Rourke is the only Democratic Senate candidate in these midterms who has vowed to vote to impeach Mr. Trump should the chance arise.
"If liberal hopes could drive a Senate campaign to victory, Beto O'Rourke would be winning by 40 points", Enten said.
Cruz's backhanded compliment - and O'Rourke's curt response - was a fitting coda to an hourlong debate that put on display several of the candidates' biggest differences on issues like standing for the National Anthem, immigration and guns.
"Hold on, more armed police in schools is not thoughts and prayers".
Cruz compared O'Rourke to socialist Sen.
